After a year of turmoil politically and internationally, we at Second Wind are now looking forward to the new signs of life and hope that every spring brings - to us and to everyone who visits Second Wind Retreat. These photos were taken by a recent guest who was inspired by the Retreat's natural setting.

This Spring, videographer Mike Bruno visited Second Wind with this fiance, Emilie. He shot this footage and recently sent me the completed video. He really captured what Second Wind is all about. Thank you, Mike, but such a beautiful gift! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wRLvRzIQXqk&feature=youtu.be

On June 10, Team Depot volunteers got to work on the Second Wind raised get organic garden - adding soil amendments and planting our garden boxes with many different herbs, tomatoes, beans, eggplant, cucumbers, squash and asparagus. The Home Depot of Blue Ridge donated mushroom compost and other soil amendments as well as plants, and the Blue Ridge Dairy Queen provided lunches for the volunteers. It was a wonderful day, and the plants have really taken off! Thanks to all the volunteers and companies who came out in support of Second Wind!

Our area in the North Georgia Mountains has an amazing number of rivers, creeks and streams. This new video shows a number of whitewater runs and waterfalls close to Second Wind Cancer Retreat - several that are on the property or within short walking distance in the National Forest. Bright and early on June 6, Team Depot got busy weeding, digging and planting the organic summer garden behind Second Wind Retreat. Last year, Home Depot - Blue Ridge donated and employees volunteered to build and fill eight beautiful raised garden beds. This year, Home Depot donated plants, seeds, additional soil, garden fence and posts. After five hours of work, Team Depot volunteers stood back to admire the completely planted garden filled with herbs, tomatoes, squash, cucumbers, beans, carrots, peas, sunflowers and more - plus a beautiful garden fence was installed to help keep out our persistent woodland critters. A big thank you to Sharron, Leslie, Theresa, Dirk and Ginnie! Nobody on earth works harder than Team Depot volunteers. Last year's garden got rave reviews from our SW guests, many of whom had never had access to a garden. With the new plantings - and the new fence - we're expecting an even bigger crop for summer 2013.

One breezy Sunday in October, Kathy Poodiac rounded up more than a dozen of her oncology patients for a leaf-peeping drive to the North Georgia Mountains - and a lovely afternoon at Second Wind. An Oncology Physician Assistant with over 20 years of experience, Kathy prepared a delicious, healthy lunch then gave everyone the chance to visit with each other and explore Second Wind and its natural surroundings. It was a fun and inspiring day that gave Kathy's patients a break from dealing with illness, with the chance to just enjoy the beautiful, colorful season.
Kathy has a new blog called "New Cancer Info Made Easy" that provides up-to-date information on new cancer treatments in an easy- to-understand format. Check it out at easycancerinfo.blogspot.com

Sheryl Muller just spent 6 nights at Second Wind along with her friend Sherry Braddy and their daughters. Sheryl, who has Stage 4 breast cancer, said she had a wonderful and relaxing time here. Thank you, Sheryl, for donating the three beautiful necklaces you designed and made!
